Torsion Spring Failure in Southwood

Before: Torsion spring on a Clopay door snapped at 7:40 a.m. Door stuck closed with both cars in the garage.
After: Pair of new torsion springs installed, balanced, and tested through ten full cycles. Door opens at a normal speed again.

The homeowner heard it from the kitchen. A torsion spring, the horizontal coil above your door that does the heavy lifting, snapped mid-cycle and dropped the door crooked in the track. The door wouldn’t budge. We replaced both springs, not just the broken one, because on a paired-spring door the second spring is nearly always close behind. Jaylen Ross showed up wearing a uniform and a name tag, gave the written price, and had the door running again within two hours. Ten open-and-close cycles before we packed up, no shortcuts.

Snapped Lift Cable on a Wayne Dalton Door in Old Torrance

Before: Right-side lift cable had frayed and snapped. Door hanging uneven, bottom left corner two inches off the ground.
After: New aircraft-grade cables on both sides, drums reset, door realigned and level in the opening.

A frayed cable on a Wayne Dalton door is one of those problems that starts as a quiet scraping sound and ends with the door sitting lopsided. The remaining cable was holding several hundred pounds of door by itself, which is never a position you want to leave overnight. We replaced both cables, reset the drums, and checked the spring tension while we were in there. Level door, no scraping, and the opener stopped working twice as hard to compensate.

Opener Gear Strip on a LiftMaster in Seaside

Before: LiftMaster opener motor running but the door not moving. Nylon drive gear inside the operator had stripped to a smooth ring.
After: New drive gear installed, travel limits recalibrated, force settings adjusted to manufacturer spec.

This one gives people a false scare. The motor hums, the chain rattles, and the door just sits there. We opened the unit and found the drive gear inside the LiftMaster had worn down to nothing, which happens after years of daily use, especially on heavier doors. Replaced the gear, reset the travel limits, and tested the door with the opener’s safety reversal. Good as it ran when it was new. The customer kept saying “I can’t believe you didn’t just sell me a whole new opener.” That’s not how we work.

Severe Panel Damage on an Amarr Door in North Torrance

Before: Bottom two panels of an Amarr door dented and bowed after a vehicle contact. Door binding in the track halfway up.
After: Damaged panels replaced, all rollers swapped for new nylon ones, door sanded and refinished to match.

Took me twenty minutes to get the door down without ripping the track off the wall, honestly. Two panels were caved in, and the door had been used for a week after the hit, which did no favors to the rollers. We sourced matching Amarr panels, replaced the damaged sections, and put in new rollers while everything was apart. It’s not a brand-new door, but you’d need a ladder and good light to tell.

Extension Spring Replacement with Safety Cables in Walteria

Before: One extension spring stretched out and detached. Door buckled to one side, safety cable missing entirely.
After: New matched pair of extension springs, new safety cables run through the center of each spring, door balanced.

Here’s a safety note that matters more than people realize. A detached extension spring on a residential door will whip sideways hard enough to hurt someone if there’s no safety cable inside the spring. This one had no safety cable at all. We installed a matched pair of new springs and ran safety cables through both. Then we balanced the door so it holds at chest height without drifting. If your door has extension springs running along the horizontal track and you can’t see a cable inside them, call us. That’s not a cosmetic issue.

Noisy Door With Worn Rollers on a Genie Door in Harbor Gateway

Before: Metal rollers rusted and chattering. Door shaking and loud enough to wake the upstairs bedroom every time it opened.
After: All rollers replaced with sealed nylon-bearing rollers, track cleaned and lubricated with a lithium-based garage door grease.

We hear this one a lot. “It sounds like a freight train, can you do anything?” Nine times out of ten the rollers are shot and the track is bone dry. We pulled every roller, switched them to sealed nylon-bearing units, cleaned the track, and greased the right points. The door went from waking-the-baby loud to open-with-one-finger quiet. Same door, same opener, completely different experience.
